Now that Mother's Day is coming up, I started to look for presents to give my mom when I see her. The obvious choices of flowers and jewelry rushed to my head, as they do to many of us when choosing presents for a birthday or anniversary of other sorts. Yet I wanted to do something more meaningful, something meant just for my mom.
So, I decided to spice up her present with something handmade: tissue paper flowers to decorate the wrapping. These are super easy to make and she'll be able to keep them since they wont die in a few days like natural flowers would. Perfect!
Here's how I made them:
DYI Tissue Paper Flowers
You Need:
Tissue Paper Sheets (assorted colors)
Scissors
String
Ruler (optional)
Pencil (optional)
Fold a sheet of tissue paper in half (hamburger style). Cut along the fold.
Fold both halves in half again, without separating them. Cut along the fold again.
With the 4 squares you just made still stacked, fold a 2 inch strip on one of the sides. (You can use a ruler and pencil to mark the fold or eyeball it by using your thumb). Keep folding until you run out of paper.
Cut a pointy shape on each side of your folded stack.
Tie the string around the middle of the stack (Don't do it too tightly so that the paper doesn't rip). Leave a tail on one side if yu'd like to hang them.
Expand each side of the folded stack into a fan shape.
CAREFULLY separate each sheet from the expanded "fan" and repeat on the other side. (This step is kinda delicate, so make sure to take your time and not get frustrated in order to not rip your paper).
Keep separating the sheets until you give the flower a rough spherical shape.
DONE!
NOTE: the more squares of paper you stack on step 3, the fluffier your flower will be. Play around with different amounts and colors to add variety to your bouquet.
As I said, these flowers are super easy, cheap, and quick to make. Let you mom know how much you appreciate her with this cute handmade addition to whatever gift you get her. She surely will love it!
